Argent Tournament

Associated Achievements

Stage 1 - Aspirant

At aspirant rank you have access to 3 dailies, doing these will get you 5 Aspirant's Seals each day, and you will need 15 to reach the next rank.

The quests are:

Learning the Reins - Requiring you to perform some basic techniques on target dummies - 2 Seals
Training in the Field - Kill 8 Scourge in Icecrown, almost any will do - 1 Seal
Weapon Quest - This will be one of 3 quests that will have you fly all over the continent to get a weapon - 2 Seals

I would recommend dueling with other players too. For one it gives you an achievement should you win, secondly players are harder than any npc can be (especially as the tournament progresses) and will help train you.

You should also head over to the western pavilion and start working on your Black Knight quest line. This can't be fully completed until Champion rank, but at least you can get all the legwork done now.

After you do these dailies for 3 days, you will be able to complete 'The Aspirant's Challenge', after which you will be sent to defeat an Argent Valiant. He's not that hard, but if you get your shield to 3 stacks before engaging it does help. After you finish him, you'll be asked to speak to your city representative to be promoted to valiant.

Achivements: Argent Aspiration, Tilted

Stage 2 - Valiant

At valiant rank we have 4 dailies, two involving actual jousting combat. Again 5 Valiant's Seals is the maximum each day, and it will take a total of 5 days. Note that on your third day as Aspirant, you can start your first day of Valiant, so your initial Aspirant->Champion will take 7 days.

The quests are:

A Valiant's Field Training - Kill 10 Scourge in Icecrown - 1 Seal

At The Enemy's Gates - Fly over to the base of Icecrown Citadel, grab a mount and use your jousting skills on the required targets - 1 Seal

The Grand Melee - Joust 3 Valiants. Each has to be a different race, and you must have the quest active to challenge any valiants - 1 Seal

Weapon Quest - Same as Aspirant rank, still as annoying - 2 Seals

Each of these quests will give Sunreaver/Silver Covenant reputation, as well as your home city.

You can complete Lance a Lot on day one of valiant training by simply not handing in 'The Grand Melee' and challening every valiant until you beat them all.

If you're having trouble jousting vs Valiants, see the end of this post.

After you get your 25 Seals, you will be able to hand in The Valiant's Charge, and be sent off to fight an Argent Champion. He's a little harder than your previous Argent Valiant, but not that hard if you've been paying attention in your jousting, rather than button mashing. After you "rank up", you'll be sent over to the western pavilion for your new Argent Pet (Gruntling/Squire), make sure to talk to him to get him to fly your colours, and access to your next set of dailies.

Achivements: Argent Valor, Lance a Lot

Stage 3 - Champion

Now that you're champion, you will have earned your "Champion of (Home City)" achievement. If you were exalted you will have gotten "Exalted Champion" as well as a special title. You can now begin valiant training for another city, you can do both valiant and champion quests at the same time, so you may as well, unless you're racist, which is deplorable... unless it's against Gnomeregan, because thats ok. If you get Champion/Exalted Champion with all 5 cities, you will get Champion/Exalted Champion with your faction. Exalted Champion + Argent Crusade exalted will net you the Crusader title. So quite a lot is now open to grinding.

You can finish off your Black Knight quest line now, so you may as well go take him down a peg or two, why he gets to fight on a griffon is beyond me.

Now for the meat of Champion, the quests;

Among the Champions - Defeat 4 Champions in Jousting, these guys are harder - 1 Seal

Battle Before the Citadel - This requires defeating a Commander, who can be tricky, typically there will be multiple people in the area, and they are usually up for helping when they see someone fighting a commander. - 1 Seal

Taking Battle To the Enemy - Kill 15 Scourge in Icecrown - 1 Seal

Threat from Above - Requires killing an elite Frost Wyrm and some adds, so take friends. *Note* This quest is only available after defeating the Black Knight - 2 Seals

You will also start off with 10 seals from your promotion quest, so then it's just a matter of grinding what you want.

Achievements: It's Just A Flesh Wound, Champion of (Home City), Exalted Champion of (Home City), Champion of (City) x 4, Exalted Champion of (City) x 4, Champion of the (Faction), Exalted Champion of the (Faction), Exalted Argent Champion of the (Faction)

Jousting, Kale Style
Use keybindings. If you're not keybinding you're going to have serious troubles playing well. Try to use simple keybindings too, multiple finger movements compared to pushing one button will cause issues.

Begin with 3 charges of defend, always prepare. As your opponent moves forward, remain in position spamming charge, try to wheel around close and thrust a few times. After the initial speed boost is done move out a few yards so you can hit a shield breaker then ride back in to melee range. Try not to stay out too long, and don't go out so far he can start shield-breaking/instant charge you. After cooldown is over, a couple of seconds worth, wheel back out and charge back in.

I like to think of my charge as a way to strip down their armor to make my thrusting rip them up. NPC's can chain shield-break/charge together very quickly, and as an Australian the latency I have will occasionally leave me open to their attacks even when I see that I'm safe.

I'm not saying this is the be all and end all style, but it's what works for me.
