With the 4.0.6 Patch "The Exalted" has been increased to include the 45 and 50 versions. 50 Reputations at exalted will reward you "The Exalted" title up from 40 previously. "The Exalted" title also has been removed from people who had the previous version of it at 40.
Quote from: Bashiok (Source)
We think "the Exalted" is a really awesome title. With Cataclysm we added a bunch of new reps though, and we want the title to keep pace so that it's always representative of someone that's obtained a considerable number of exalted reputations throughout the life of the game, even as we add more.
We did consider offering multiple titles for the various tiers, but "the Exalted" fits so perfectly and we wanted to avoid a potentially infinite string of titles like "the Fairly Exalted", "the Nigh Exalted", "the Mostly Exalted", etc. We also considered grandfathering in those who had already earned it but think that this title can be a unique testament to the continued efforts of reputation hunters and keep the same value as we introduce more reps and push the requirements up to match.
It's different than every other rep in the way we're raising it with a new bar to meet, and I do apologize that it wasn't communicated clearly beforehand that it was going to be functioning this way.

Hikikomori here, updating at 2 am. It's the 4th night in a row I'm about to get 5 hours of sleep then I'll be traveling home. I have to say in summary, Blizzcon was a blast. It was an interesting experience and honestly, being my first year as press I just winged it and had a lot of success. Me and Jangutu had a great time covering the event, there were a few issues with wireless availability that unfortunately kept us from being able to provide you up to the minute updates due to the convention's wireless infrastructure.
Our options were to either split our 2 man team, stay in the press room on another floor away from the action all day at the same time missing panels and everything our community wants to know, or cover everything we possibly can, and provide large content articles in the coming days. We decided the best option was to cover everything, which if you could get a peek at Jangutu's note's, there's no room left to write anywhere in his notebook. This is merely a message to everyone that we are so swamped with work staying up till 3 am to be prepared to bring you a lot of big articles in the future.
We're still holding our Twitter contests for a lot of Blizzcon Prizes, @wowachievements we have 2 Deathling figures, 4 comics from the starcraft and warcraft universe, as well as soundtracks ...

My Hardest Achievement Earned:
I would have to say hands down that the hardest achievement that I personally experienced in this wonderful game of World Of Warcraft had to have been Mimiron's "Firefighter" achievement. I was on Arathor server with a guild called "Window Lickin' Good" and we were grinding each week the meta achievements for the Rusted Proto-Drake. Bare in mind we were doing these achievements whilst they were brand new and we were just geared enough to get through most of these fights, let alone getting them done on "hard mode" so to speak. So regardless we had been trying for "Firefighter" for weeks now, spending 4 hour sessions twice a week for 3 weeks just banging our heads against the wall trying every strategy we could muster up. We didn't like to watch strats on the fights because we felt it was somewhat cheating. I have to say that when we got that fight over with it was probably the most gratifying moment we as a group of friends, IRL and digital we, and especially myself had ever experienced. (A funny back ...

This comes as great news for large guilds and the vast number of guilds that have kept themselves under 500 since the beginning. It doesn't solve the issue for these guilds, but it does buy Blizzard some time, and lessens the blow against large guilds. I can only hope that more progress for technical support and tolerance can be made in time.

We previously announced in the Cataclysm Beta forums that we'd be enforcing a 600 guild member cap with patch 4.0.1. We've reevaluated what we believe the realms are capable of supporting and instead will be enforcing a guild member hard cap of 1,000 members. This means that guilds with more than 1,000 members will no longer be able to invite new members until they drop below the cap. For example, if a guild has 1,500 members they'll be able to continue as-is, playing and earning guild achievements for as long as they choose, through Cataclysm and beyond, but they will not be able to add new members until they fall below the 1,000 member cap. If a guild has fewer than 1,000 members, they won't be able to add members above that number.
This new guild cap is being enforced for several reasons, but they all factor into a need to control guild sizes in light of the new guild systems, including guild leveling and achievements. Previously, adding players to a guild ...

PARIS, France – October 7, 2010 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that the subscriber base for World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), now exceeds 12 million players worldwide. This milestone was reached in the wake of the mainland Chinese launch of World of Warcraft’s second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King®, and also as global anticipation continues to mount for the December 7 release of the game's third expansion, Cataclysm™.
“The support and enthusiasm that gamers across the world continue to show for World of Warcraft reaffirms our belief that it offers one of the best entertainment values available today,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We are as committed as ever to taking the game to new heights, and we look forward to demonstrating that with Cataclysm in December.”
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees’ territories are defined along the same rules.

IRVINE, Calif. -- October 4, 2010 Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft®: Cataclysm™, the highly anticipated third expansion for the world's most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game*, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 and Macintosh® at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be offered as a digital download from the Blizzard Store. A special Collector’s Edition packed with bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.
"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers, we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."
The first two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade® and Wrath of the Lich King®, each shattered PC game sales records upon their release.* In Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now ...

We'd like to make you aware of the new Real ID-related privacy options we've introduced to Battle.net. These options provide Real ID users with additional tools for customizing the service based on their preferences, enabling the ability to opt in or out of the Real ID "Friends of Friends" and "Add Facebook Friends" features or to turn off Real ID altogether.
Real ID offers an optional, convenient way for keeping in touch with real-world friends you know and trust, whether they're playing World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, or one of our future games. The "Friends of Friends" and "Add Facebook Friends" features provide you with even more options to stay connected while you play by making it easier for real-life friends to locate each other on Battle.net. You can easily enable or disable these features through your Battle.net privacy settings by logging in to your Battle.net account at http://www.battle.net/.
This comes as a well wished change to the Battle.net privacy settings. I've always been somewhere in the middle on this issue. I understand both sides of the argument that it can be a great tool, but also an unwelcome security risk. I haven't been affected negatively by the Real ID change but I do have friends who have struggled with it. From wanting the new features like cross realm chat to unfortunately getting hammered with requests from people they don't know through ...

We've noticed a lot of people are getting frustrated at the apparent lack of updates on player pages and the like, so I thought i'd give an update of just what changes we've been doing behind the scenes. We've made considerable changes to the backed, so i'll go through each of them, in the order we've tackled them.
Batch Processing
We've been working hard trying to scale up the database to handle the huge increase in players we track. We are close to 18.5 million characters, and that's rising every day. While this isn't a huge amount of data, having so many records makes finding an individual character rank slow. While we've indexed our data, these only help in certain situations. So while getting a list of the top 100 players in the US is super speedy, finding the US rank for player XYZ is slow. And it gets slower the further down in rank you are.
To get around this problem, we calculate an ordered list of rankings every day for regions and world. To keep the server responsive, we only calculate the top 1,000,000 players for each rank type (ie, the top 1,000,000 world players, and the top 1,000,000 for each region). We may increase that number, depending on if you guys really want a rank going into the millions :) We are also considering other solutions to speed it up (anyone ...

Here's more news about what you can guess the system specs for Cataclysm will be. It's noteworthy to see that certain features on Macs will require a higher OS yet older OS's will still be able to function, while old processors will not.

A little forewarning to those of you that play World of Warcraft on these systems;
Shortly before the release of Cataclysm, a patch will be released in which PowerPC processor based Macs will no longer be supported.
This update indicates the removal of PowerPC support from World of Warcraft.
Attempting to run the game after the update will bring up a message stating the hardware is no longer supported, and the game will not run.
Quote from: S4d1k (Source)
No problem. We are still supporting 10.4.11 and 10.5.8 until further notice. Some graphic features like the new water will require 10.6.4+.

Salaction's Hardest Achievement:
One day in Wrath of the Lich King i decided to get my Loremaster Achievement, the title seemed to be rare and cool those days, so i wanted it =P.
I wanted it anyway because i became a so called ''Achievement Whore'' in the name of the people.
So i started off with all the low level zones then to the higher zones, till there were hardly any quests left.
YET, i still didn't had my Loremasters completed. Why you ask? Because i was hated with the Goblins, because couple days before i terrorized Booty Bay to grind my Bloodsail Buccaneers to Revered.
So these tiny little goblins that always tell me, “Time is Money Friend” did not wanted to give me quests in order for me to complete my achievement, noooo, they even wanted to kick my butt, i became their rival.
So i thought what can i do to get these little goblins to become my friends again while not losing friendship with the Pirates and i found out that in order to do this i had to go over to Dire Maul North get ogres to drop some Gordok Shackle Keys, MANY MANY Gordok Shackle Keys.
So coming back to the “Time is Money Friend” Life quote of the Green Goblins; They made me spend so much Precious Time for me to get my already taking a lot of ...

I'd have to say my time spent achieving in Ulduar has been the most rewarding and interesting out of all 1058 achievements so far. When I saw the massive amount of achievements added to the game in Patch 3.1, I thought to myself "this is going to take forever." I was right, filling up the entire Secrets of Ulduar 25-Player Raid section of my tab took 8 months. The week Ulduar was released, I had made it my personal mission to do as many achievements as I could on my own. Quickly I realized that completing everything was going to take a massive amount of effort from the guild. Most of my time in Ulduar was spent convincing people that we should do a certain achievement. "Guys, let's get Nine Lives out of the way." That particular achievement people now despise, as our first crack at it we hit Auriaya's enrage timer with 1 cat left to kill.
Most of the other random achievements fell into place easily, not inconveniencing the raid to an unbearable degree. Some others were just natural, do the fight well, and be rewarded; Shadowdodger comes to mind. Certain achievements came easier than others, as some may remember the week that XT-002 Deconstructor was generating a lot of adds, which made getting Nerf ...

Hi All, I was just digging though some referral links were were getting and happened to come across this article written by our friends at wow.com . Here is a snippet:
15 Minutes of Fame: Good heavens, man, you do it all! Do have any primary focus in game, or do you truly enjoy every part of it?
Caspi: In my opinion, a good mix is the key. Raiding is still fun, but when the raid is over, it's really enjoying to queue some BGs with friends, build up some classic raids like Sunwell or just do five-man heroics. Arena is also a big factor for me in the game. The first two WotLK arena seasons (season 5 and season 6) were quite unbalanced, but they changed a lot in terms of class balance, so the last season was fine for me. The main goal for me is to having fun in all aspects of the game. I also have a level 80 death knight alt, but I'm not really a friend of alts, so I'm logging in one day a week for a heroic with friends or something.
It's obviously taken quite a while to rack up this many achievements. How old of a character is Caspi?
I've been playing my hunter since ...

From Blizzard Jun-29-2010:
"As noted in the official patch 3.3.5 notes, the release of the Ruby Sanctum was briefly delayed to better align its availability across all regions. We're happy to announce that the wait is over, and the Ruby Sanctum is now open."
Unfortunately 73 realms were down for extended maintenance during the release!
There are four new achievements for the raid, one for each of 10 and 25 player defeat of Halion, both in normal and heroic modes.
We will report world firsts as soon as the data becomes available.
Here are the top 10 characters ranked by Feats of Strength as of June 29, 2010, recorded for posterity. As further existing achievements are converted to Feats of Strength this list will change over time...
Midsummer Fire Festival is here! In previous years this
world event has been controversial because it has been difficult to complete all the achievements and collect all the rewards in one year.
In 2009 the quests were reset a few days into the event to allow characters to gather enough burning blossoms. We'll see how Blizzard handles the event this year and bring you any information as soon as it comes to hand.
Either way, if you dont have this set of achievements start your dailies today!
The full list of all guilds by average achievement points is here.

With 9995 points Zøltan is shaping up to be the first player in the world with 10,000 points. I know I'm waiting (less than) patiently for him to cross that 10,000 mark! You can do it Zoltan!

Congrats Ènder of Tichondrius, US (character no longer exists under this name)... seriously dude... wow.
From Ènder on "how he did it"
It started with a friend of mine talking about getting something like 6-8 in a single OC run. After taking a look at my list of things still needed, I also saw that I could get 8-10 in OC or even more because I was behind on getting a lot of easy stuff.
The original plan was to get 30 exalted reps, 15 mounts and 50 pets for those connected ones. I ended up spending 3 weeks farming Dire Maul for Steamwheedle Cartel rep, keeping everything from ZG, spending hours in Silithus and Felwood. I had most if not all of Outland reps when Wrath hit and as a raider, most of the Northrend reps are mandatory. After more slacking and the release of the Tourney, getting a few more 'cheves with hitting Crusade Exalted seemed easy enough.
Getting Mountain O' Mounts was never an option because it wasn't something I ever wanted to force. With 3.2 lowering all the prices I decided 50 was enough. There was a lot of testing with with friends and alts on which mounts gave achievements on learning and on obtaining. With the cd for learning being 2 or 3 seconds and most of them being switched to 'cheve on "in inventory" a chopper seemed easiest for getting a "twofer."
Pets were easy enough but are owed mostly ...
