Patch 4.1 Coming to a PTR Near You Posted 2011-02-24 09:31:17 by Hikikomori

PTR Patch 4.1 first hit the Taiwanese PTR servers earlier this morning.

Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman are back as 5 player dungeons. Unfortunately the old mounts are not coming back with them. It is unknown at the time of this post if the pet achievements reward a pet on top of the 10 points earned. They have added new pets in the patch which you can check out at Wowhead. Sadly, I don't see a new accumulative mount achievement but this is the early build of the patch.

New Achievements: Each Worth 10 Points

We have decided to remove the added bonus of gaining Guild Experience from Guild Achievements earned. This change will realign Guild Achievements with our philosophy held for normal Achievements, which are intended to be predominantly their own reward (barring the rare exception of special achievements that grant an additional reward.) Previously, the experience reward had been seen as an additional side bonus and not something that should have been significantly skewing the advancement of guilds. During the beta, we greatly increased leveling speed across the board and since most characters were copied from templates, guild experience from Achievements didn’t seem imbalanced. It has become clear that an imbalance does exist and should be addressed to ensure that guilds progress at the rates expected within the daily Guild Experience limits.

For guilds that are currently above the normally possible experience limit, we will be readjusting it back to the expected limit once more. This will not affect Guild Reputation gains at this point in time.

Preload Cataclysm Posted 2010-12-07 00:39:43 by Hikikomori

With Cataclysm coming soon to North American Servers, if you can't wait, here's how to preload Cataclysm

This has been Ok'd by Blizzard Blues and doesn't break the EULA or TOS. It is about an 800mb patch.

  • Step 1: Make sure World of Warcraft, it's Launcher, and Blizzard Background Downloader are not running.
  • Step 2: Open up your WTF folder in your World of Warcraft folder.
  • Step 3: Open Launcher.wtf in Notepad and find "accountType="LK" " and change LK to CT, save and close.
  • Step 4: Open Config.wtf in Notepad and do the same.
  • Step 5: Open your Launcher and it should begin to download the 800mb patch.

New Achievement List is Live on Realms Posted 2010-11-23 16:48:01 by Hikikomori

The new achievement list is live on all Realms. You'll notice a significant drop in points, but an increase in the number of available achievements. I dropped by about 200 points. We'll be bringing you an updated list of achievements, and updating our database as well soon. It's a little tight with Thanksgiving being so close to a major change in the game so please be understanding :) .

To make sure you are properly updated, you will need to log in and do anything like running a dungeon, getting an achievement, or changing gear around, and log out so the wow armory will update you. Players who have not logged in will still show old totals. It'll take time for the WowArmory to get through their backlog, then it's our turn.

Loremaster in Cataclysm Posted 2010-11-23 04:29:51 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Zarhym (Source)

As you're all aware by now, the shattering of Azeroth will drastically and permanently alter the continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. In the wake of Deathwing's devastation, adventurers will be summoned to embark on new quests from levels 1 to 60 in these transformed territories -- and with so much new content to be found on these original two continents, many original quests will no longer be available after the shattering occurs. These quests will automatically be removed from your quest log, while any quests you’ve accepted that still exist in Azeroth will remain in your log.

You may be wondering how the shattering will affect the Loremaster achievements. If you've already completed Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms or Loremaster of Kalimdor, you will not lose your achievements. However, if you've made progress toward these achievements without yet completing them, be aware that any quests that are removed from the game will no longer count toward your progress, so you may see your achievement quest counter drop. If you’re close to earning either of these achievements, we strongly suggest you finish them with great haste, as Deathwing's return is imminent.

In addition, the Loremaster achievements are being redesigned slightly to make them easier to track. Rather than having players complete a huge number of quests throughout a single continent, the criteria will change so that you will instead need to complete a set number of quests in each zone ...

Pilgrim's Bounty! Posted 2010-11-21 04:06:03 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Lylirra (Source)

Pull up a chair, grab a sizable helping of your favorite food, and prepare to reflect on the year's good tidings -- you're invited to Pilgrim's Bounty!

The festivities start this Sunday, November 21, and continue all the way through next Saturday, November 27. Try your hand at cooking, hunt down a wild turkey with friends, or throw tradition to the wind and participate in an all-out food fight. There's fun for everyone, so we hope to see you there!

Bountiful Tables

Bountiful Tables are the centerpiece of the Pilgrim's Bounty celebration. They're loaded with tasty treats and surrounded by interactive chairs that allow you to eat and share food with other players via the action bar.

A Bountiful Table is laid out with five different Pilgrim's Bounty foods, one in front of each chair. Each chair has an unlimited supply of one food, and they are conveniently labeled: The Sweet Potato Chair, The Turkey Chair, The Stuffing Chair, The Cranberry Chair, and The Pie Chair. While in a chair, you may eat as much of that food as you like, as well as pass servings of that food to other players sitting in the chairs. Share the bountiful feasts with your friends!

If you eat five helpings of any single food, you'll gain benefits unique to that food. In addition, if you eat five helpings of every food, you'll gain the Spirit of Sharing, which lasts one ...

"The Insane" Will be Achievable in Cataclysm Posted 2010-11-14 06:32:49 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Lylirra (Source)

It's a question you've been asking us for a little while now. And, based on all the posts, emails, petitions, and letters we received following the announcement that the Insane in the Membrane achievement would no longer be in available in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, we started to wonder if maybe we had gone a bit loco.

So, we went back to the drawing board. After carefully reviewing all the feedback and discussing the matter amongst ourselves, we're now happy to report that we will be making the following changes to the Feat of Strength:

  • Exalted reputation with Shen'dralar will no longer be required. As this is the only reputation that will be unobtainable in Cataclysm, we've simply decided to remove it as a requirement.

  • For those who already earned Exalted reputation with this faction, don't worry -- we haven't forgotten about your accomplishments. In a future patch, we'll be adding in a separate Feat of Strength to recognize your deep love of Dire Maul.

  • Bloodsail Buccaneer faction reputation will remain in-game. Also, to ensure that this change does not negatively affect Cataclysm quest progression in Stranglethorn Vale, Booty Bay Bruisers will now provide reputation up through Exalted.

This will ensure that players will still be able to attain Insane in the Membrane and "The Insane" title in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Please note, however, that these changes will not take effect until The Shattering in patch 4.0 ...

Elemental Invasion! Posted 2010-11-03 21:48:29 by Hikikomori

You can nab yourself a nifty Feat of Strength by finding destroying a rift of each of the 4 types of rifts. You should get it while you still can. It should be available till the next phase of the Pre-Cataclysm Events start, but that's no reason to wait. I had a pretty hard time getting it as I went for strictly Northrend Rifts. Some places you need to just camp until it spawns. The rifts spawn on approximately an hour long respawn timer, and if not defeated they will despawn in 10 minutes.

You can defeat rifts by killing the elemental spirits that they spawn. Upon defeating a rift you will get a buff, you do not need to have all 4 buffs at one time, and you can kill rifts anywhere in Azeroth and Outland where they spawn. You do not need to get the last kill on the rift, you just need to be in the area when it dies. Here's a macro to help you.

/cleartarget
/tar surging e
/tar searing e
/tar rumbling e
/tar gusting e
/stopmacro [@target, noexists]
/run PlaySound("RaidWarning")

You can find more about the Elemental Invasion as well as spawn locations for Rifts at Wowpedia Here

Update on 600 Character Guild Cap Posted 2010-10-06 08:50:15 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Vaneras (Source)

For now there are no plans to implement options that will allow a guild master to extend the hard cap of maximum 600 guild members. We never know what changes and features the future might bring to the game, but it should be safe to expect that this cap will not be changed at any time soon. We are of course not interested in splitting guilds, so those extremely few guilds that currently have more than 600 members will remain intact once patch 4.0.1 is released, but they will not be able to recruit again until they are fewer than 600 members.

Guild Member Caps for Cataclysm Posted 2010-10-05 12:39:54 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

We will be introducing a new, hard cap of 600 members in a single guild for Cataclysm. This function will go live with patch 4.0.1 and is already live on the beta and PTR's.

As most of you already know, we have supported a soft cap of 500 members in a guild since World of Warcraft launched. We have allowed guilds to exceed the 500 limit up until now since being in a guild really just amounted to ranks and chat channels. With the advent of the new guild system in Cataclysm we are tracking many more things on each individual player in a guild and in order to support that, we need to limit the amount of members to a reasonable level.

The new cap of 600 members is fully supported in the new guild system and that means that everyone will be visible in the ui and able to contribute to all guild functions like experience and reputation gain. We have pulled a large number of statistics to get to the 600 member cap for guilds and we are happy to say that this value covers more than 99.9% of all the active guilds in World of Warcraft.

The small number of guilds that are over the 600 person cap will be able to keep their guilds intact (and fully supported in the new guild system), but they will not be able to add new members until they fall below ...

Flexible Raid Lock System in 4.0.1 Posted 2010-10-02 22:58:23 by Hikikomori

We have a series of quotes from Bashiok and Zarhym on the new "Flexible Raid Lock System coming in the pre-Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1 below but here is a summarized version

  • At the release of 4.0.1 the pre-Cataclysm patch only Icecrown Citadel and Ruby Sanctum will be affected by these changes.
  • After Cataclysm launches allWrath of the Lich King Raids will use this system.
  • The item level balance between 10 and 25 will not affect Wrath of the Lich King Raids like it will in Cataclysm Raids. (meaning in Cataclysm Raids, 10 and 25 drop the same loot, it is addressed in a blue post below)
  • All Cataclysm Raids will use this new system. It does not affect normal or heroic dungeons at all.
  • This new system allows you to join a raid in progress after already raiding that week, as long as the second raid you're joining has progressed farther than your first raid.
  • There are more strict rules for Heroic versions of Raids. If you have killed a boss on Heroic you cannot move freely to other Heroic raids but can move down to Normal Raids.
  • You will not be locked into a raid just for merely zoning in.

I feel like this change will help players not get burnt out on raiding. Currently there is pressure whether personal or from a group dynamic to raid both 10 and 25 twice a week and with this new system, it might even the playing ...

Guild achievement News for 10 Man Guilds Posted 2010-09-25 11:50:54 by Hikikomori

We just made a change to all of the old 25 player raids that allows guild achievements to be completed as if they were a 10 player raid. This means you will only need 8/10 instead of 20/25.

Get hyped. =)

I'm in a pretty large guild but I'm glad to see this change. It makes it a little easier to go do Magtheridon's Lair or Gruul's for guilds who are strictly 10 man and want the guild achievements.

Guild XP and Reputation Clarifications Posted 2010-09-21 18:16:23 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

XP earned from guild achievements does not respect the daily cap. In other words, you will still get the xp even if you are capped.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

Yes, any xp you earn will count towards the cap, no matter what the source.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

Any quest that rewards experience to you will also reward guild experience. The amount of guild reputation earned is based on the amount of guild experience rewarded. Note that daily quests will also reward guild experience.

All guild reputation is gained as a factor of guild experience.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

No. As I mentioned in the other post, anything that grants guild xp will also grant guild facton. So that means that winning a rated BG with your guild or completing specific guild achievments (sic) will reward faction as well as completing quests or killing instance bosses.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

You are currently only earning guild rep from questing. Based on this, your rep gain speed will be slow since you are missing out on the other two ways to earn it. (rated BG's and boss kills) We just activated guild xp on dungeons so you should see the rate increase from that. You will see another increase once rated BG's are active. Guild achievements will not affect guild rep since the xp that you earn goes directly to the guild and not the players.

We are watching the rep gain rate both internally ...

Spoiler! Guild System UI News Posted 2010-09-17 02:26:40 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

The new guild system UI will be active in the pre-patch but guild experience and guild achievements will be disabled until Cataclysm launch.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

There is no concept of "Top 20 contributors" anymore. We changed that functionality many months ago. XP contributed to the guild comes from all members. Guild rep is always available no matter what amount you have contributed to the guild.

This was in response to a question about whether you would receieve guild reputation, if you were not one of the Top contributors of the day/week

I'm excited for this. Some may say its imbalanced because larger guilds might have an advantage but there are a myriad of pros and cons here. Don't be so quick to judge.

Spoiler! More News of Old World Content Posted 2010-09-14 08:01:44 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

AQ20 has been converted to a 10 player raid.

Quite interesting. Another old dungeon being revamped. It seems like it will still be level 60 though. This comes as another blow to 20 man instances. It seems to me that Blizzard is tidying up their old content to fit new standards. You will note below that 20mans are not listed under their quick guide explaining how many players are needed for an achievement/dungeon to count towards guild xp. They are even going as far as turning Alterac Valley when it is a Rated Battleground for 85's into a 25man BG. It seems to clarify that only the Rated BG will be 25, and AV for anyone below 85 or non rated AV will remain 40 man.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

40 player battlegrounds will be converted to 25 player for rated matches. Guild achievements are only available in rated BG matches.

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

In general we require 80% of the group to be comprised of guild members. There are exceptions to this case though like 40 man raids and arenas. All the gritty details below are below.

4/5 - dungeons
8/10 - 10 player raid, 10 player BG
20/25 - 25 player raid, 25 player BG
10/40 - 40 player raid
12/15 - 15 player BG

Spoiler! Breadcrumb Task Board Feature Posted 2010-09-10 20:48:49 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Valnoth (Source)

Breadcrumb Task Boards should be available in ALL capital cities. Functionality is as follows:
    • Quests are all formatted in the same manner.
      • Horde quests are called Warchief's Command: Zone Name
      • Alliance quests are called Hero’s Call: Zone Name

  • Quests from the board(s) are all level banded. This means that the quests from these boards will have a minimum and maximum level (to obtain). This is to prevent sending players to zones that they’ve outgrown and to prevent spamming the quest log. You are still free to quest wherever you desire.

  • Quests are generally region sensitive. For example, if you are a level 25 orc in Undercity the billboard will send you to Arathi Highlands. The same orc will be sent to Stonetalon Mountains if they are in Orgrimmar(Kalimdor).
      • We WILL have another set of breadcrumbs in place that are meant for cross-continent questing. Those are not in place yet.
Please post any and all bugs, feedback, whatever in this thread.

Quote from: Valnoth (Source)

Valnoth was asked if Task boards could be used to find low level quest hubs, as a measure to help max level'd characters seeking Loremaster

No. This is solely intended for sending people to level appropriate zones. You can look at the achievement pane if you are going for loremaster and it should give you a pretty comprehensive list of what you need to accomplish.

Spoiler! Flying in Cataclysm and Battleground Titles Posted 2010-09-09 22:29:55 by Hikikomori

Quote from: Zarhym (Source)

We’ve added a new flying skill called Flight Master's License. When World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is released, players who purchase the expansion will see this skill available from flight trainers for 250 gold once they reach level 60. This new skill is required for flying around all Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms zones, including the new level 80-85 zones.

Quote from: Zarhym (Source)

The cost for this is 250 gold. The name has also changed. I've updated my original post with the new information. :)

Quote from: Zarhym (Source)

Honor titles have been added into World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. These titles are earned when specific Battleground Achievements are completed, and are triggered when specific Battleground rating milestones are met. The titles remain the same as the original PvP titles, however, players who obtained these titles from the original Battleground ranking system will not lose them. The Feats of Strength associated with the original titles have been altered slightly to denote that they were earned under the old system, although the titles themselves remain the same.

As of now, the first ranks -- Private for Alliance and Scout for Horde -- are earned when a player reaches a Battleground rating of 1100. The ranks increase every 100 rating points, up to Grand Marshal/High Warlord at 2400 rating. Titles earned through the new system are yours to keep and will not be wiped with each season.

In addition, all-new titles and Achievements will be added for top performers ...

Clarification on Guild Achievement: We Are Legendary Posted 2010-08-26 08:46:28 by Hikikomori
Corey Stockton aka Mumper Lead Content Designer made a clarification to Guild Achievements for Cataclysm. Here's his quote from earlier last week

Quote from: Mumper (Source)

The guild rewards you guys are seeing in game are not hooked up yet. Guild rewards have 3 requirements that must be be met before you can use them. First and foremost, they must be unlocked via a guild achievement. Let's just say, that for example, you need to complete the new guild achievement "We are Legendary" in order to unlock the Dark Phoenix. That achievement requires the guild to gain access to all 6 legendary weapons currently available in the game. (note that all guild achievements start on Cataclysm launch, so anything you have now will not matter, it must be done with your guild after launch)

So, let's say that your guild get's this achievement and thereby unlocks the Dark Phoenix on the guild vendor. At this point anyone in the guild can see the item on the vendor, but they will need a specific amount of guild faction to be able to purchase it. In this case, let's say exalted. Now, once you have the guild faction, you can purchase the item for its gold price. (prices will vary based on the reward)

I am using the Dark Phoenix and the We are Legendary guild achievement as examples here but you should get the idea. Don't worry, we wont be handing out all the goodies ...

Don't worry I'm still here and I've racked up a bunch of new achievements... in Starcraft II.

I did take down the Lich King in 25 man this week all due to a great bunch of raiders. They did most of the work. I died in the 3rd phase. Blinked into a Lich King swing while running from Vile Spirits.

Sidenote*
I will also be bringing you spoiler coverage on new achievements that have been included in the beta as well as when Cataclysm is released. I will try to label them the best that I can so it doesn't ruin the magic for some of you who may be waiting for release to dive in.

Glory of the Ulduar Raider 10 Player

Part 2 Iron Dwarf Medium Rare

http://media.wow-achievements.com/images/2010/08/05/Irondwarfmediumrare.JPG

To earn this achievement you need defeat 25 Dark Rune Guardians using Razorscale's Flame Breath.

This was a fairly easy achievement. It is heavily dependent upon time. This fight will go for a long time and eventually you may have to wipe it and start over. Don't worry though, as the counter is accumulative and will carry over each fight. This fight requires 2 tanks or 1 uber-tank.

Starting the Fight

Talking to the Expedition Commander, pretty much the only human in a sea of Dwarfs, will start the Event.

Razorscale Add's and Abilities

Phase 1

The groups I've been with like to have everyone in the giant circle in the middle of ...

Lich King 10 Player Guide w/ Video Posted 2010-07-20 19:17:29 by Hikikomori

This is a funny video that a fellow guildmate Gufoni in Alea Iacta Est made. I thought it would be appropriate since today the Icecrown Citadel Raid Buff has reached its maximum of 30%.

Hellscream's Warsong

The Frozen Throne

With the ICC Raid Buff now at 30% its time to get The Frozen Throne achievement along with the highly coveted title "The King Slayer".

This video cracks me up every time I watch it and it helped me learn the Lich King fight. I've done a bunch of practice runs on it with the raid group I'm in and hope to down it this week for my first time.

This is a more technical guide than the above, if that didn't do it for you.

Phase 1 : Shambling Horrors

You will need at least 2 tanks and preferably 3 healers for this fight in 10 man. The main tank will position him at the bottom of the stairs. The raid will be slightly to the right of the middle of the platform. The offtank will be toward the right of the stairs.

After the pull the Lich King will cast Infest which is an AOE that applies a dot raid wide that does damage and can only be dispelled by the person infected being healed to 90% hp. It's important for healers to get their raid healed while conserving their mana and not over-healing. He will continue doing this throughout the fight.

The Lich King will spawn Drudge Ghouls which are ...

Glory of the Ulduar Raider (10 Player) Guide

Rewards a Rusted Proto-drake

http://media.wow-achievements.com/images/2010/07/13/Gloryoftheulduarraider.JPG

I wanted to start off with a common middle ground for people new to achievements and for those who are heavily acquainted with achievements. With badge gear being easily attained as a matter of constant grinding, these achievements should be easier for some while still retaining an overall difficulty for others during the Wrath of the Lich King to Cataclysm gap. I'm going to show you the ins and outs of obtaining these achievements. There is a lot of number crunching for these achievements but I'm going to simplify it while making sure you get all the information you need to know. This guide is written from the perspective that you know a little about Ulduar, but not enough that you could do this in your sleep or already have this achievement, otherwise, why would you even be reading this?

Welcome. This guide marks the first part of what I hope to be a long series of guides for Glory of the Ulduar Raider (10 Player) which still rewards a Rusted Proto-Drake..
This guide is distributed into parts and will be combined together at the end.

Part 1 Orbit-uary

http://media.wow-achievements.com/images/2010/07/13/Orbituary.JPG

Orbit-uary is a 4 part achievement that will net you 40 achievement points; 10 points for each Orbital Defense System Tower that is active.

I want people to know enough about the fight that, should they encounter difficulties, they could amend the strategy to fit their group ...

The Spirit Guide Posted 2010-07-03 17:47:04 by Hikikomori
Hi fellow achievement maniacs! I'm Hikikomori and I'll be writing a new column called "The Spirit Guide". It will be a comprehensive guide to all types of achievements. From compressed Meta Guides for all the Raiders out there to guides for your every day achievements. I'll be your spirit guide along the way. If you've been reading wow-achievements.com since the start, you probably have the majority of achievements out there but there will be content just for you. You'll learn how to get those insanely hard achievements like raid and PvP Meta's, and Feats of Strength. There will also be Guides for readers new to achievements. I want to show different perspectives on the multiple ways you can earn achievements. I've done some ridiculous things while going for an achievement and somehow still successfully gotten that achievement. These achievement guides will have a more in depth personal touch than your standard "If you can't do this, then you're a noob" guides.

As per the title of this column, besides showing you end game achievements with my 80 mage I will be starting my own Goblin Shaman during Cataclysm to show you how to get those plentiful new achievements once the expansion has launched. Ghost Wolf Ftw. I personally can't wait for the new Guild Achievements.

In real life I'm an ordinary college student by day. At night I put on a cape and fight crime. When I'm ...
